Minaret of the Al-Ashrafiya Mosque in Taiz - 12 imadi
This 12 bogaches definitive stamp celebrates Yemen’s rich spiritual and architectural heritage by featuring the iconic white minaret of the Al-Ashrafiya Mosque in Taiz, a masterpiece of Rasulid-era Islamic architecture. Framed dramatically by the silhouettes of local foliage, the illustration carries a message of religious devotion, permanence, and historical continuity, highlighting Taiz's long-standing status as a premier cultural and scholastic center in the southern highlands. Issued during the reign of Imam Ahmad bin Yahya, the top of the stamp bears the clear inscription "KING AHMED I" alongside his calligraphic title, explicitly connecting the political legitimacy of the Mutawakkilite imamate with the patronage and preservation of the country's most sacred monuments. The combination of bilingual text and traditional currency denominations underscores the state's efforts to project a formalized institutional identity rooted deeply in its traditional Islamic foundations.
