This commemorative postage stamp was issued in 1963 by the Federation of South Arabia, a British protectorate established in the southern Arabian Peninsula (centered around Aden) that existed before the formation of independent South Yemen. This specific issue was released to celebrate the global centenary of the International Committee of the Red Cross (1863–1963), which was founded in Geneva, Switzerland, by Henry Dunant to ensure humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict. By participating in this worldwide omnibus postal release, the federation aligned its local postal administration with international humanitarian networks and global civic observances. The clean, high-contrast design features a bold, centralized Red Cross emblem set against a stark white background. To the right of the symbol, the historic centenary milestone years 1863 and 1963 are inscribed in red typography, balanced by the English heading "INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS CENTENARY" along the top margin. The denomination is indicated in the lower corners as 15 Cents on the left, with its Arabic equivalent, "Khamsat 'Ashar Sent" (١٥ سنت), on the right. Circulating widely on domestic and international civil correspondence, this stamp functioned as an official expression of regional solidarity with universal principles of medical neutrality, disaster relief, and human dignity.
