Issued in the 1960s as part of the Famous Physicians and Medical Pioneers series of the Yemen Arab Republic (Y.A.R.), this stamp commemorates Ibn Sina (Avicenna) (980–1037), the renowned Persian philosopher, physician, scientist, and scholar of the Islamic Golden Age. Widely regarded as one of the greatest medical thinkers in history, Ibn Sina authored The Canon of Medicine, a comprehensive medical encyclopedia that served as a standard reference in the Islamic world and Europe for several centuries.
