This stamp was issued in 1963 by the Yemen Arab Republic (Y.A.R.) (الجمهورية العربية اليمنية) as part of the definitive and commemorative set marking the First Anniversary of the Revolution (العيد الأول للثورة). The motif depicts a blazing torch held high alongside the red, white, and black republican tricolor flag featuring a central green star, set against a single lit candle symbolizing the first anniversary year (1962–1963). The release commemorated the first anniversary of the September 26, 1962 Revolution, which overthrew the Zaydi Mutawakkilite Kingdom and established a republican government. In the imagery of the new state, the torch symbolized enlightenment, liberty, and the burning flame of national independence breaking through past isolation. By issuing a diverse series of commemorative stamps in late 1963, the Y.A.R. administration aimed to strengthen its national identity and assert international recognition amidst the ongoing North Yemen Civil War.
