Accession of King Ahmed to the Throne of Yemen- 1 imadi
This 1-imadi stamp commemorates the formal accession of Imam Ahmad bin Yahya to the throne on February 18, 1948, following the turbulent aftermath of the Alwazir coup and the assassination of his father, Imam Yahya. The central medallion features the red national flag of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom—charged with the sword of Ali and five stars—symbolizing sovereign unity, state authority, and religious legitimacy. Flanking the flag are two dual cityscapes representing the dual power centers of the kingdom: on the left, the prominent minarets of the southern capital of Taiz, which Imam Ahmad favored as his administrative stronghold; and on the right, the traditional tower-house architecture of Sana'a, the historic capital. This program carries a powerful message of political consolidation and continuity, using bilingual inscriptions to announce the new ruler's institutional dominion over the country's critical geographic regions and cultural institutions.
