Commissioning of the airport of Hodeida - 4 buqsha

In the early 1960s, the newly formed Yemen Arab Republic prioritized expanding its transport and civil aviation infrastructure to connect the nation internally and with international trade routes. A key milestone in this effort was the modernization and expansion of the airfield at Al Hudaydah (Hodeida), transforming it into a vital international airport serving the major Red Sea port city and boosting regional economic development. Issued in 1964, this commemorative postage stamp celebrates the Inauguration of Hodeida Airport (افتتاح مطار الحديدة). The vignette illustrates a commercial airliner landing along a paved runway stretching between mountain ranges, with another aircraft soaring in the sky above to mark the milestone in Yemeni aviation history.
