Foundation of the Yemen Arab Republic - 6 buqsha
This stamp was issued in 1963 by the newly established Yemen Arab Republic (Y.A.R.) (الجمهورية العربية اليمنية) to commemorate the First Anniversary of the Revolution of September 26, 1962 (ثورة ٢٦ سبتمبر ١٩٦٢). The central design features a republican soldier triumphantly holding the red, white, and black tricolor national flag bearing a green star, set against radiating sunbeams that symbolize the dawn of a new political era. The issue marks the pivotal historical event of September 26, 1962, when a group of nationalist military officers led by Abdullah al-Sallal and inspired by Pan-Arabism overthrew the centuries-old Zaydi Imamate and proclaimed the establishment of the Yemen Arab Republic. By issuing dedicated republican postage inscribed with both the anniversary date and the revolutionary "26-9-1962" banner, the new administration sought to project state legitimacy and assert its political identity amidst the unfolding North Yemen Civil War.
